Kimin Kim is a Korea-based painter currently living in Brooklyn, New York. His practice is continuous exploration and experimentation around the intersection of botanical symbolism, historical memory, and the ritualized navigation of grief. He investigates the multi-layered role of floral, as vessels of cultural memory and as metaphors for mourning, engaging with the complexities of visual iconographies referenced from Korean literature and its literary techniques of poetic representation. He is interested in the social phenomenon of metaphorical imagery, where these iconographies circulate as decorative, symbolic lexicons used in daily rituals and ceremonies across various contexts, including offerings, as a means of comfort or grieving.
